Annual Commemoration of the University of Copenhagen

The University was founded in 1479. Ever since, the University has celebrated its foundation with an annual commemoration. The commemoration is held on the third Friday in November with participation from the Royal Family. In 2015 the commemoration takes place November 20.

The commemoration is composed of a Ceremony in the Ceremonial Hall of the University at Frue Plads in the afternoon and an evening event in collaboration with the Royal Danish Theatre.

For the commemoration, the Univerity management invites representatives
of the University's employees and students, different prize winners and appointed doctors and honorary doctors of the year as well as representatives of research councils, funds, ministries and other close cooperation partners.

The University typically hires the entire Opera House at Holmen for the evening event at this special occasion. Spare tickets are sold to students and employees of the University a couple of weeks before the event.
